Breaking the Lazy Cycle

Breaking the Lazy Cycle

Becoming a "better you" is not an easy challenge. Many have to overcome a series of hurdles to achieve their long-term goals, especially when it comes to weight loss. One of the biggest issues many will have is with their own motivation or lack thereof. A.k.a Laziness. Here we've compiled some tips we believe can help you achieve your goals and break the lazy cycle.

Get Organized

One of the worst things people can do is say they have a goal to achieve but don't have a gameplan to help them follow through. Writer plan out their novels, coaches plan out their plays, and you as a person who is ready for change should plan out how to achieve your goals. Organize your calendar and life in order to focus on what is truly important. Clutter and disorganization make great excuses as to why you haven't achieved your goals. Prioritize events and short-term goals that will help you reach your long-term goals quickly and effectively. Create a list of daily goals and try your best to follow through with them. But DO NOT overload your schedule, more than likely you will not be able to accomplish all the items on your to-do list in one day.

Create "Everyday Rituals"

Creating a schedule or ritual is a great way to keep your life consistent and flowing naturally. After creating and eventually getting used to one, the lazy cycle will begin breaking away. Start by creating a morning ritual; mainly one that does not consist of you constantly clicking the snooze button on your alarm. Create a ritual that will have you feeling awake and energized for your day. For example, as soon as your alarm rings, drink a glass of water to wake yourself up. Take a shower, do your makeup (or don't), eat your breakfast, brush your teeth, workout or go to work.

If you like many others believe the day just drags on and you find yourself constantly counting minutes until lunchtime: DO SOMETHING! It is best to tackle your challenges before lunchtime to get a head start on all your daily projects. It will make the day progress faster and you are able to breathe a little easier after finishing up your reports or errands early.

Make Time to Move

Dance if you want to, run, jog, just get up and get active. A great way to handle a busy schedule and weight loss journey is to find time to deal with the stresses of everyday life. You can do so by getting up and active for 30 minutes to an hour every day. Create a weekly workout schedule you know you can follow. For example:

Monday: Cardio & Legs

Tuesday: Cardio & Back

Wednesday: Cardio & Arms

Thursday: Cardio & Abs

Friday: Free weights & Zumba

This is just an example. You can create your own workout plan when you are good and ready to move. If you aren't a person with a consistent schedule, there are other ways of getting your workout in. Hire a personal trainer. Hey, if you have the means to do so, then do so! Personal trainers are able to work with your schedule and help you focus on key areas of interest. They may even help you figure out what foods to eat to better your weight loss journey. If you can't afford a personal trainer, bring your own with you when you work out. Meaning, your best friend. Working out in pairs is a great form of motivation and it can be a fun way to hang out and pass the time. Join a workout class or just create your own workout schedule and work off that weight.

Get Plenty of Sleep

Sleep is an important factor when it comes to normal functionality and weight loss. Your internal time clock needs all the rest it can get to function at optimal results. Sleep deprivation can cause your body to over eat thanks to your stress hormones being out of whack. In a 2006 American Thoracic Society International Conference, scientist presented their finding on women who slept five hours a night as compared to women who slept seven hours a night. The women who slept only five hours are 32% more likely to gain weight and 15% more likely to become obese. So as you get ready for bed tonight, set your alarm seven hours in advance and try to stay off your phone. Sweet Dreams.

Keep a Positive Mindset

Ever heard the saying, "You are your own worse critic"? Well, that may be hindering your productivity and ability to achieve your goals. Instead of putting yourself down, bring yourself up and think of yourself as a beautiful/handsome, successful, and productive person. "Be gentle with yourself, you're doing the best you can." If you need help being positive, create a support system of friends and family who has your back when the going gets tough. We here at Doctors Best Weight Loss believe in you!

Take Care of Yourself

Taking care of your weight is one way to take care of yourself physically. But you must also remember to take care of yourself mentally. Devote some “me time” to yourself to unwind and relax. Treat yourself to a non-food reward like a spa day or devote time to yourself to read or pamper yourself.
